Term 2, Week 8
An action-packed week of
Poetry and Maths!
Our Literacy learning has
continued to focus on Poetry this week and we were wowed by the amazing poetry
performances given by each child this week. All of the children should be so
proud of their efforts as we sure are!
In Numeracy we have been
busy solving number puzzles by using mathematical language and asking
questions to find unknown numbers. The children also spent time
developing an activity to teach Year 1 children about collecting and presenting
data during our two Maths days. The class really enjoyed taking on this
challenge and did a fantastic job of working with the younger children. A
lot of fun was also had as they learned more about data handling through their chosen
pick and mix activities on both of these days.
Topic time this week was spent on covering the very important issue of Fairtrade as part of our Chocolate unit. To understand this concept better we looked into the lives of some cocoa farmers who are now working in a Fairtrade co-operative and learnt how their lives have improved as a result of Fairtrade. ‘Tree Hugger Dan’ also came to speak about this world problem to all of Year 3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Looking ahead to next week,
on Wednesdays will be swimming again as part of our PE rotation. Next Thursday
afternoon we will have a school visit to Chef Parade to learn more about the process
involved in making chocolate and also to make some chocolate of our own! Please
note that as our class will be going in the afternoon, there may be a slight
delay in our return to school on that day.
Book Week is also
approaching (18-22 March) so if you would like to read a story to the class during
that week please let me know as we would love to have you join us!
Have a lovely weekend.
