Term 1, Week 7
A colder week but warm inside in 3 Sahara with all
our hard work!
This week we have continued to develop our note
taking skills in Literacy and again used our topic of Dinosaurs as the content
to extract information from. In Numeracy we have moved on to shape and focused
on describing and classifying 2D shapes by their properties. We have also
worked on symmetry and finding the lines of symmetry in a range of 2D shapes.
Times tables
learning has begun in class too. In Year 3 we aim for the children to be able to
instantly recall their 2, 5 and 10 times tables and be stronger on their 4’s, 3’s
and 6’s by the end of the year. A little practice often, makes a big
difference. Moon Maths is a
fun way for your child to work on their target times table: http://www.primaryresources.co.uk/online/moonmaths.swf
Topic this week has had us looking at timelines and
trying to grasp the concept of how long ago and for how long dinosaurs roamed
the Earth. We then broke this down to the three periods in which the dinosaurs
lived and began researching in groups what each of the periods was like. Here
is a fun interactive link to explore this learning at home:

As you will be aware, Culture Week is taking place
next week. A reminder that on Monday the whole school will be taking part in a
postcard challenge where each child will be creating their own postcard design to
show ‘What it means to be me’. For this activity your child may wish to bring
in things from home to either draw or stick on their postcards. I also ask for your
help to assist your child in bringing in one light item that represents your
culture to hang from our class cultural umbrella for Monday as well. Please
note that on the Friday of next week children can come to school in their
national costume or dressed in the colours of their flag.
A final reminder!
Next week 3 Sahara will start swimming so will need the necessary kit
for Wednesday and the following 4 Wednesdays after half term break.
Have a wonderful weekend.
