Week 26

Topic "Chocolate"

We discussed advertising and we created our own [chocolate] adverts.

Testing Fair-trade and comparing to Non-trade chocolate was great fun this week.

We each tasted a sample of white and dark chocolate [ fair trade and non-fair trade]. The children were quite definite in their preferences.

We were able to collate the information and our conclusions are shown below.

Maths

More work and practise on Subtraction of 2-digit numbers from 2-digit and 3-digit numbers this week saw more children become confident and capable in answering sums.

Work on 3-D shapes and on Angles was introduced and will continue next week.

Literacy

We continued with work on Authors and Letters this week. We “wrote” to Roald Dahl and asked him about the characters in his books and about his ideas. We are also preparing for a very short sketch; based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to perform at next week’s Key Stage 2 assembly. This is part of the “Reading List” initiative.

The children completed some Literacy Assessments this week. This included writing and a standard reading (comprehension) test. Well done Boys and Girls J

Other

We very much enjoyed watching Year 2 Sky assembly yesterday. We found their performance about Solids and Liquids very interesting.

Next week we have our usual swimming session [ Wednesday ] and on the same day we will have an Artist in school for a workshop. We will also be attending the dress rehearsal of the 1950’s concert on Thursday ( see school Newsletter for more details).

Note too that the PTA are arranging a Spring Fun Day on Saturday 12th April – see school web site, posters or the newsletter for more details.

Year 3 Camp information and permission letters went home today. We have arranged a meeting to discuss the trip and to answer general questions.

The meeting is on Monday 14th April 8:15 a.m.
in Year 3 Lemon classroom
