On Thursday we tried to
change a liquid into solid. The children used the hand-whisks they brought in.
We whisked milk, we whisked cream and we partly-filled a jar with cream then
started shaking it. We learnt that liquids such as milk and cream could be
transformed just by beating and whisking! They were amazed and delighted at how
shaking cream in a jar could end up in a solid form that we all know as butter!
It is great to see how much pleasure the children are getting out of this
hands-on unit! Here is a link if you would like to try making your own butter
at home:
Maths
We continued
working on rounding numbers to the closest tens, hundreds and thousands. We
enjoyed a team challenge which encouraged the children to work with a partner
and use the skills practised this week. We practised times tables and managed
to ‘test’ their ability to recall the facts; both in sequence and by answering
random question. Further practise and ideas are available on the web site
listed below;
Literacy
We continued our Myths and Quests literacy
Unit [topic]. We read, discussed and worked on more tales including – Beowulf
and Grendal.
Adjectives were
the focus when we discussed characters and settings as part of this unit. We
will be moving on to creating our own myths, mythical creatures, settings and tales.
